Alpine man dies as result of injuries sustained in a bicycle accident on Highway 90/67
On October 9, 2011
Alpine resident Larry Ebmeier was involved in a serious bicycle-vehicle accident around 9:30 am on Sunday, Sept. 18 on Highway 90/67. While riding back to his home in Alpine from the Marfa Lights viewing center, a regular bicycle ride for him, Ebmeier’s bicycle collided with a car parked on the shoulder of the road. He sustained serious head, neck and permanent spinal cord injuries. Ebmeier, 61, died early Thursday, October 6, after being taken off life support, at his choosing, and with his family’s support. Ebmeier was an avid cyclist, artist, and pharmacist at Big Bend Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his boyfriend/partner of more than 28 years, Dr. Donald Freed, professor of music at Sul Ross State University, and his mother and other family in his native Nebraska. We are very sad to lose Larry, our next door neighbor, and a loved and appreciated community member.
We will post information here about a memorial service when that information is available.
