CITY OF PRESIDIO RECEIVES MORE THAN $1 MILLION DONATION FROM TRANS-PECOS PIPELINE, LLC
Donation Will Provide New Playground, Sports and Recreation Facilities for the City
PRESIDIO, Texas, June 12, 2017 – The City of Presidio is pleased to announce plans to break ground on an expansion to its outdoor community recreational facilities made possible by a $1 million donation by Trans-Pecos Pipeline, LLC. The expansion will include the purchase of 10 acres for the development of soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, a playground, additional parking and restrooms.
“We are so excited to offer our residents these new facilities,” said John Ferguson, Mayor of Presidio. “The completion of the recreational park and sports complex will go a long way in improving the lives of the children in Presidio, promoting a healthier lifestyle and affording them the opportunity to just have some fun.”
The new facilities will be built next to the existing Presidio Aquatic Center and take approximately 12 months to construct. Seven new soccer fields will be constructed that will accommodate children of all ages with a large field for ages 12 and older, a medium field for children under 11 years, two small fields for children under 9 years, and three smaller fields for children under 7 years. Adjacent to the soccer fields will be two basketball courts and a new $200,000 playground with two pavilion canopy areas. Three volleyball courts and three additional Pavilion canopy areas will be located close to the existing baseball diamonds. The two new tennis courts will be located directly behind the Presidio Activity Center.
“Trans-Pecos Pipeline has gone a long way to demonstrate their commitment to our community,” said Brad Newton, Executive Director of Presidio’s Municipal Development District (PMDD). “Their communication was excellent throughout construction; they helped our local law enforcement and border patrol, and then they initiated a cooperative effort with us and West Texas Gas to help offset the construction costs of a new lateral natural gas pipeline to the Presidio city limits that will access our new Industrial Park. And now with this $1,067,000 donation for new recreational facilities, they are not only helping grow our economy but also helping grow our community pride.”
City Administrator, Jose Portillo, a Presidio native, said, “After growing up in Presidio and returning home after 32 years, it is very gratifying to think that within a few months the children of Presidio will have a wonderful park to play in, something we’ve never really had before. We owe this all to the generosity of Trans-Pecos Pipeline. Thank you, so much”
