The Big Bend Gazette is an independently-owned monthly news publication focused on the Big Bend of far West Texas, a vast and varied region of desert, mountains, and iconoclasts where the United States and Mexico meet at the Rio Grande. We feature unusual news stories, excellent writing, provocative cartoons, and intriguing photographs of the people and things who inhabit this land.

In September 2003, John Waters and Marlys Hersey acquired The Marathon Gazette (established in 2000), changed its name and expanded its focus, and moved its base from Marathon to Terlingua, Texas, just outside of Big Bend National Park. We are now based in Alpine.

Congratulations on your 8 years of publication! I always check for your newest edition when shopping at the 5th street Porters. Always something interesting in every edition and I always learn something new about people and places in the Big Bend. Thanks for what you do! Cheryl

  3. I want to thank the writer (a neighbor) who wrote the kind and caring story about Larry Ebmeier. I knew Larry when he and Don lived in Lincoln. This was a great tragedy for Larry and those who loved him. Your story helped me understand it a little better.
Sincerely yours, L. David Anderson, Lincoln, Nebraska
