St. James Church, Alpine invites the community to bring their pets to be blessed at 11 a.m. on October 5 as they celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the 13th century Italian friar who is the patron saint of animals. To celebrate his day, St. James invites dogs, cats, horses, snakes, gerbils, all pets and their people to a blessing to be followed by an ice cream social.
Also in attendance will be cats and dogs from the Alpine Animal Shelter who will be blessed and, hopefully, adopted after the blessing. Participants are asked to bring something from the shelter’s wish list to assist in their mission of rescuing and placing homeless pets in new homes.
The shelter would be grateful to receive cat litter boxes (no tops) small and large sizes,
cat litter, Purina dry kitten food, Friskies wet cat food, cat and dog toys/balls, leashes, paper towels, dog treats, canned dog food, dish soap, laundry detergent, trash bags, towels, blankets and pet shampoo. In fact, anything pet related is welcome!
St. James asks that humans be sure their pet is safely controlled: leashes for dogs, carriers for other small pets and asks dog owners to bring plastic bags to use to clean up after their dog.
St. James is located at N. 6th and Ave. A in Alpine.
