National Parks May Close Due To Government Shutdown

Big Bend National Park and Guadalaupe Mountains National Park may close at midnight due to a government shutdown.

Internal NPS documents call for most of the agencies 24,645 employees nationwide to be furloughed. About 3,266 will remain in essential positions such as law enforcement.

In 1995-1996 during the last shutdown parks were closed to the public for 27 days.
