Big Bend Ranch State Park is pleased to invite you to our 5th annual Thanksgiving Dinner and guided hike at the Sauceda Headquarters. Bring your friends and family, and join us for a wonderful holiday meal catered by Marfa Table. Only in Far West Texas can you get away from it all and give thanks in surroundings that are quiet, remote, wild and scenic.
Dinner will be served between 1 and 3 pm and will be followed by a short guided hike around the Sauceda Nature Trail.
We’re serving pecan-smoked turkey breast with gravy, cranberry-orange relish, mashed potatoes and stuffing, green beans and carrots, and apple bread pudding with caramel glaze.
The Nature Trail is an easy 0.9 mile hike that loops the historical Sauceda complex. It passes through country that is typical of the Chihuahuan Desert and Llano area of the park. There are signs along the way that identify some of the most common plants you will see during your visit to the Big Bend. From the top of the hill you will enjoy the best view of La Mota Mountain and the historic Sauceda complex to be seen anywhere in the park.
Dinner reservations and pre-payment must be confirmed by Sunday, Nov. 22. We will do our best to accommodate late reservations but they are not guaranteed.
Cost: $25 per person, children ages 13 and under $15. The park entrance fee is waived for the day.
Contact Bridget Weiss at (512) 944-2307 for dinner payment and reservations. Contact (512) 389-8919 to make camping or lodging reservations in the park.
Directions: The Sauceda Headquarters is located in the interior of the park approximately 27 miles off of FM170 via Casa Piedra Road or Bofecillos Road. Please note that the 27-mile-long road to the headquarters is not paved. Most cars are fine on the road, but call ahead for road conditions.
For the hike please bring sturdy hiking shoes, hat & sunscreen, long pants and a vessel/pack for drinking
