Former Alpine Mayor Jerry Johnson to run

Former two-term Alpine Mayor Jerry Johnson has filed as a mayoral candidate in the May City of Alpine election according to Alpine City Secretary Cynthia Salas.

Johnson who was elected in 2008 and 2010 as Mayor, was defeated in 2012 by Avinash Rangra.

In 2013, Johnson applied to be City Manager and was not chosen.

In a 2014 bid for Brewster County Judge, Johnson was defeated by Eleazar Cano by 1,704 votes to 1,216 votes.

In a close 2016 mayoral bid, Johnson was defeated by Andy Ramos by 215 votes to 208.

Johnson will face off with Ramos and any other candidates who file before the 5:00 P.M. filing deadline tomorrow for the May election.
