U.S. to deploy 5,200 troops to southern border by week’s end

The U.S. border will see an additional 5,200 American troops by the end of this week,

At a press conference today, General Terrence John O’Shaughnessy, Commander, United States Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command said 5,200 troops will be deployed to the U.S. border with Mexico by the end of this week and “As we sit right here today, we have about 800 soldiers who are on their way to Texas right now.” O’Shaughnessy said the troops are in addition to the 2,092 National Guard troops currently deployed to the southern border.

O’Shaughnessy added, “Everything we are going is in line with Posse Comitatus [Act].” That law passed in 1878, makes it a crime to use military troops as a domestic police force.
