Update on Texas Ranger Investigation of the Alpine Chamber of Commerce

An update on the Alpine Chamber of Commerce Texas Ranger investigation from the chamber: The Alpine Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1976, is a 501c6 nonprofit organization whose members are local business people and governed by a volunteer 10-member Board of Directors who are elected by the Chamber membership. The Board’s responsibilities include policy making and providing for control of property.

The day-to-day operations of the Chamber of Commerce historically has been the responsibility of a paid Executive Director. After the Executive Director’s resignation in early March 2017, members of the Board of Directors stepped up to fulfill these duties. A financial audit was conducted which revealed unauthorized transactions on both the Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center accounts.

Upon this discovery, the Chamber Board of Directors turned the audit results over to the Texas Rangers for investigation.  An investigation is now in progress. The Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will not comment further on this matter, and will not engage in speculation, accusation, or other defamatory behavior.
